Hello, my name is Stephanie Snell. I am self taught artist with a passion for dogs, and a deep love for the woods I live in. I grew up in Northern Wisconsin, went to a two room school house and graduated high school with a class of eighteen. I love to cook, read, garden and spending time with my Irish Wolfhounds Angus and Fae. I have lived in Maine now for over 25 years. I have always loved to paint, but did not think of it as a profession until I became a single parent in need of income and started painting arcs and panels for lampshades in a local shop.

As an independent contractor, I was commissioned to paint a very wide variety of pictures. In doing so, I was often challenged with unusual special requests. When doing a shade, you not only have to think of the portrait itself, but also how to match it in the seam at the back of the shade and how it will look with the light on as well as off! Twenty years of painting lampshades helped develop my unique and individual style. |
Two years ago, I was again offered a challenge. I was told by a fellow artist, if I painted an Irish Wolfhound, they would post the painting on their art page. I met the challenge and was then given another! Set up a Face book page for my art. At the time, it seemed a bit over whelming. But the challenge was met and I have truly found my passion in painting dogs. I live on a River in Maine and my love of Wolfhounds, started with my first hound Maggie, hence the name….River Maggie Art.

Through this page I have met and been commissioned to paint portraits of dogs from all over the world and have shipped to 13 countries! When I paint them, they become mine for a short period of time and sit by my side until the portrait is done . Thanks to the encouragement of my family and friends I am finally able to share my work with you!
